New Prius plugging-in from July

Prius-Plug-In_thumb The model which sets a new low for CO2 emissions in its class (49g/km) has been available to order for some time and will finally arrive in Toyota showrooms from July.

Capable of a pure electric range of 15.5 miles thanks to the introduction of a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, the plug-in version of the popular Prius is set to make further headway in terms of fuel economy, returning 139mpg combined.

Recharging the 176lb 4.4-kWh battery is expected to be as straightforward and swift as previous plug-ins, taking just 90 minutes with a power point linked to a standard supply or an on-street charging point. Toyota reckons that a fully tanked and charged Prius Plug-In can go 769 miles without any form of refuel.

All Prius Plug-ins coming with a charging cable set as standard, including five metres of cabling, that can be stored neatly in a dedicated area beneath the boot floor.

The incarnation of the Prius Plug-in also saw Toyota forge a partnership with British Gas to provide fleet and retail customers with site surveys and install the appropriate hardware.

Coming in Sky Blue, Tyrol Silver and Novus Grey metallics and White Pearl Pearlescent, the Prius Plug-in rings in at £32,895, dipping to £27,895 when including the £5,000 Plug-In Car Grant.
